Letošní Velká cena Monte Carla začala překvapivým postavením Lewise Hamiltona na startovním roštu a to až na 13. pozici. První dvě místa obsadily vozy Ferrari a ty také vyrazily do závodu v pořadí, v jakém proběhla kvalifikace. Kimi Räikkönen na 1. místě a Sebastian Vettel jej následoval. Za nimi se seřadilo celé závodní pole bez jakéhokoliv kontaktu, tak jakou pozici si vybojovali v kvalifikaci. Během několika málo kol se rozestupy mezi závodníky upravily a začalo poklidné kroužení po městském okruhu v Monte Carlu. Lewis Hamilton se posunul o pár míst vpřed a tak se v této části závodu nacházel na 10. místě.
Zřejmě při první výměně pneumatik stáj Ferrari upřednostnila Sebastiana Vettela a při této strategii se dostal na první místo a Kimi Räikkönen, vítěz kvalifikace, byl již na místě druhém. O další pódiová umístění bojoval Valtteri Bottas s jezdci Red Bullu Danielem Ricciardem a Maxem Verstappenem. Tato fáze závodu byla víceméně jednotvárná a nezajímavá a zdálo se, že vše v poklidu dojede až do cíle 78. kola. Avšak zhruba dvacet kol před koncem této GP se stala velice zajímavá nehoda, kdy na chvostu závodního pole jezdil Jenson Button, který pro tento závod nahradil Fernanda Alonsa, narazil zezadu před vjezdem do tunelu do Pascala Wehrleina a velice kuriozním způsobem zůstal vůz Pascala Wehrleina stát opřený o svodidla na dvou kolech na boku. Několik kol kroužili jezdci za safety carem a traťoví komisaři se snažili vyprostit uvězněného jezdce z kokpitu jeho formule. Bylo velkým štěstím, že se to stalo v místě, kde se nejezdí tak vysokou rychlostí a jezdec má ve svém kokpitu velkou ochranu, jinak by mohly být důsledky nehody fatální. Jenson Button tak neslavně ukončil svůj návrat F1 s ulomeným levým kolem. Ještě během fáze za safety carem v první zatáčce po startu narazil do bariéry Marcus Ericsson s dalším vozem Sauber, ale traťoví komisaři vůz velice rychle odstranili a závod byl restartován.
Na stejném místě již při závodě kolidoval o několik málo kol další pilot stáje McLaren. Během závěrečných pár kol se snažil ještě Lewis Hamilton vylepšit svou sedmou pozici a předjet před sebou jedoucího Carlose Sainze, ale snaha byla marná, jelikož na této trati je prakticky nemožné předjíždět, čehož je důkazem, že v dnešním závodě nebyl jediný předjížděcí manévr, který by změnil pořadí.
Na stupních vítězů rozhovor vedl Nico Rosberg a kromě veselého Sebastiana Vettela a rozverného Daniela Ricciarda zde měl Kimiho Räikkönena zklamaného z týmové režie.
This year’s Grand Prix of Monte Carlo opened Lewis Hamilton’s surprising position on the starting grid at the 13th position. The first two positions were occupied by Ferrari cars and they also started out to the race in the same ranking as were the results of the qualifying. Kimi Räikkönen on 1st position followed by Sebastian Vettel. Behind them, the entire polesitter formed without any contact, in position as they reached in the qualification. Within a few laps, the distance between the racers adjusted and drivers circled around the Monte Carlo city circuit. In this part of race Lewis Hamilton moved a few positions ahead and was at 10th position.
Probably during the first tyre replacement, Ferrari favoured Sebastien Vettel whom this strategy brought leading position and Kimi Räikkönen, the qualification winner, was at the second position. For other position at the winners podium fought Valtteri Bottas with Red Bull drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. This phase of the race was more or less uninteresting, and it seemed as if everything goes smoothly to the finish of the 78th lap. However, roughly twenty laps before the end of this GP a very interesting collision occurred when Jenson Button, replacing Fernando Alonso, came from the rear of the racing group, before entering the tunnel hit into Pascal Wehrlein and, in a very quaint manner, Pascal Wehrlein’s car remained standing at two wheels on the side. A few laps the drivers circled behind the safety car, and track marshalls tried to get driver out of the cockpit. It was a good luck that this happened at a section where cars do not ride at a high speed and the driver had a good protection in his cockpit, otherwise the consequences of the accident could be fatal. Jenson Button has ended his return F1 ingloriously with a broken left wheel.
During the first phase of driving behind the safety car in the first bend after the start, another Sauber car with driver Marcus Ericsson hit into barrier, but the track marshalls quickly removed the car and the race was restarted.
In the same spot, another pilot of McLaren team collided by a few laps later. During the final couple of laps, Lewis Hamilton was also trying to improve his seventh position in attempt to pass Carlos Sainz ahead of him, but the effort was in vain, as it was practically impossible to overtake on this track, which proves that there was no single passing maneuver in today’s race which changed the ranking.
Nico Rosberg led the interview, and he spoke not only with happy Sebastian Vettel but also with and the sportive Daniel Ricciardo, and Kimi Räikkönen who was disappointed with the team’s strategy.

Šestý závod letošní sezony formule 1 se pojede 28.5.2017 na okruhu v Monaku. V loňské sezoně zde zvítězil Lewis Hamilton . Letošní závod bude po několika letech nadvlády jedné stáje, soubojem dvou pilotů a značek a to Mercedes a Ferrari a tedy jezdců L.Hamiltona a S.Vettela . Městský okruh v Monte Carlu neskýtá mnoho možností na předjíždění, a tak zde kvalifikace bude ještě více důležitá než jiných GP. Zajímavostí jistě je návrat Jensona Buttona do vozu McLaren , kde nahradí F.Alonsa , který ve stejném termínu pojede 500 mil Indianapolis.
Valteri Bottas v minulém závodě závod nedokončil pro poruchu motoru, a tak bude mít ve svém voze novou motorovou jednotku. Je jasné, že zkušení piloti jako Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Riccardo a Felipe Massa budou mít výhodu před nováčky či jezdci, kteří zde neodjeli mnoho velkých cen. Avšak třeba Esteban Ocon má již 19 bodů a dokazuje, jak umí jezdit i na tratích, kde nemá velkou závodnickou zkušenost. Tento pilot je velkým překvapením letošní sezony a čeká jej, zřejmě, velká budoucnost ve formuli 1. Max Verstappen jistě také bude chtít promluvit do závodu a speciálně jeho agresivní závodnický styl bude zde třeba využít. Jen je otázkou, zda dokáže zkrotit své touhy po přejíždění a přizpůsobí se specifickému okruhu.
Další jezdci stájí Toro Roso, Force India a Haas, zde mají šanci na bodové zisky pokud některý z favoritů udělá chybu či dokonce havaruje. v lonském ročíku zde nedojelo sedm formulí, a dokonce se nadostal na stupně vítězů Nico Rosberg. Nechme se tedy překvapit nedělní Grand Prix Monaca 2017.
The sixth race of this year’s Formula 1 season will be held on 28th May at the Monaco circuit. The winner of the last season was Lewis Hamilton . After a few years of one team´s supremacy , this year´s race is supposed to be a duel of two pilots and brands, Mercedes and Ferrari, which means the drivers L. Hamilton and S. Vettel. Monte Carlo circuit does not offer many opportunities to overtake, so qualification here will be even more important than in other GPs. Undoubtedly interesting thing is Jenson Button’s return to McLaren, replacing F.Alonso, who heads to the 500-mile Indianapolis at the same time.
In the last race Valteri Bottas did not finish the race due to the engine failure, so he will have a new engine unit in his car. It is clear that experienced pilots such as Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Riccardo and Felipe Massa will have an edge over newcomers or riders who did not win many GPs. However, for example Esteban Ocon already has 19 points and he proves how he can drive even on tracks where he does not have a great racing experience. This pilot is a big surprise of this year’s season and he may have a great prospect in future in Formula 1. Max Verstappen will also want to hit the race and and especially he can make use of his aggressive racing style here. It’s just a question whether he will be able to subdue his desire for overtaking and adapt himself to a specific circuit.
Other drivers of team Toro Roso, Force India and Haas have a chance to score points if one of the favorites makes a mistake or even crashes. Last year seven Formula cars did not finish the race , and even Nico Rosberg did not step on the winner´s podium. Let´s wait if Sunday´s Grand Prix of Monaco 2017 brings any surprise.
